Swedish journalist Per Björklund will be deported from Egypt tonight

The Swedish journalist Per Björklund was still in the Cairo airport on Wednesday evening. He said to Swedish embassy staff that he felt allright. (Updated)


The Swedish embassy in Cairo had been trying to reach Per Björklund in the Cairo airport for two days before going there on Wednesday night, without knowing if he was there or not.

They mangaged to get in touch with Per Björklund who will be deported with a Czech Airlines-flight tonight. He has then been in the airport for almost two days and two nights.

According to the Swedish emabssy staff, Per Björklund said that he felt all right.

The magazine Stockholms Fria has spoken to the Egyptian embassy in Stockholm. It claims that Per Björklund has violated Egyptian law.”I don’t want to speculate in which crime he has conducted, but I can assure you that it is not about something he has written, since press freedome is prevailing in Egypt”, says Nader Nabil Zaki from the Egyptian embassy to Stockholms Fria.
